Rakhi - a Day All Brothers & Sisters Connect, No matter where they Are!
If Rakhi is celebrated in a family, nothing withstanding, it will be celebrated forever. No brother or sister will remain aloof or indifferent to it, no matter how far they are separated by distance. In fact, people plan months in advance and travel long distance just to be able to be with their siblings on this day and spend the festival together, reconnect emotionally, forging their bond to make it stronger. When coming together isn’t possible, they celebrate it by talking to each other through the day, praying for each other, wishing each other over phone via email, and most popularly via exchanging gifts on this auspicious day of Rakhi. This is an occasion when big time gift exchange takes place.
Tradition of Raskha Bandhan
The traditional ritual is that sister ties Rakhi, a sacred silk thread around her brother’s wrist after a performing a small puja. The thread holds prayers to God almighty to keep her brother safe, healthy, prosperous, and send good wishes and blessings his way. Sister generally gives a gift to her brother as she ties Rakhi. Gifting was limited to money envelopes earlier but now the online Rakhi gift stores have added a lot more excitement to the tradition of gift exchange,
In reciprocation, the brother vows to protect and support her at every step of life; and honors her emotions by showering Rakhi gifts for sister. This ritual is repeated every year. The dates of celebration may differ every year based on Moon Position. Likewise, the Muhurats may also change.

The Beauty of Raksha Bandhan Festival!
The most charming facet of this festival is that while everyone in the family celebrates it together, yet it is being celebrated by everyone at an individual level. Such is the beauty of this festival! Man of the house (father) receives Rakhi from his sister with whom he may be separated by distance but not emotions; he reciprocates sister’s love by sending Rakhi gift to her. On the other hand, the lady of the house (mother) celebrates it by sending Rakhi to her brother and receives gifts in return; their little daughter celebrates it with her kid brother. And if grandparents are staying with them they also send Rakhi to their siblings or simply rejoice in the fun that their children and grand-children are having! Everyone celebrates the same festival with same emotions with their own sibling.
